An elegant and beautifully trimmed hat is a classic and timeless addition to an outfit that is hard to beat. A couture hat can bring a sense of formality or add the perfect finishing touch to a look for a special event such as a wedding or garden party. Recent events at which Coquette designs have been seen include the Royal Wedding, Ascot, Buckingham Palace, garden parties and other society events and weddings.

Fascinators have become increasingly popular as an exciting alternative to a classic hat and can be worn to most occasions where hats are appropriate. They can be amusing, flirtatious, dramatic and chic. Fascinators are great conversation starters and for some reason men seem to like them!

Some golden rules for choosing and wearing hats

  • Consider your face shape, hair style and spectacles when selecting the right design.
  • Keep it in proportion to the size of your head and features, and your height and build.
  • Hats look best when in balance with hips, shoulders and your height; try to avoid a brim that is wider than your shoulders/hips.
  • Style: what are you wearing? Is it structured i.e. a tailored suit or a soft floaty dress?
  • Effect: what effect are you hoping to achieve? Are you intending to be dramatic or add mystery? Make sure that your hat is appropriate in terms of size and design for you and the occasion.
  • Colour: consider different tones as well as colours and decide whether the headpiece should match the outfit or add contrast.
  • Accessories: is the hat to match your shoes or your dress?
  • Jewellery: what will you wear to frame the face and complement your hat?
  • Hair: keep your hair style simple so that it does not detract from the hairpiece.
  • Rules are for breaking!
